St. Andrew’s Society Selkirk Settler Parade

Okay people – here’s the details on the St. Andrew’s Society Selkirk Settler Parade for Saturday.

First – I was flabbergasted with not only the greatly increased size of this year’s parade (including nine pipe bands), but more particularly with the dignitaries who will be at the Selkirk Settler monument and at the Cairn of Tears.

Lt. Governor John Harvard and Her Honor Lenore Berscheid
Cabinet Minister (Scotland) Honorable Michael Russell
2nd Secretary of the United Kingdom’s Embassy in Washingdon D.C. – (top embassador in North America)
Mr. & Mrs. Dennis MacLeod who funded the original statue in Helmsdale, Scotland
    Federal, provincial and municipal councillors
    Chief Glenn Hudson
And OH DID I MENTION? LORD AND LADY SELKIRK!!!!!!!

PARADE DETAILS:
Assemble at City Hall at 1:00 p.m. with departure at 1:30
Please share rides in cars and park near the Cairn of Tears – walk to City Hall – you will have to leave Fort Gibraltar at about 12:30 to get parked and walk to City Hall.
Route similar to last year – Main Street, McDermot, Waterfront Drive, Waterfront to monument.
We want to have at least 20 people in the parade. We will feature our new MLHS flag. You should dress as Selkirk Settlers with some tartan thrown in if you have it.
We should leave shortly after the parade if we can melt away during the speeches so that we can be back at the Fall Gathering ASAP.
Following the parade the dignitaries will all be bused over to Fort Gibraltar at approximately 3:00 p.m., to meet all of us at our Fall Gathering, and there will be a couple of little speeches.

I should also let you know that plans leading up to 2012 are absolutely enormous and I am thrilled that an umbrella group has been incorporated to lead the planning and that all Scottish groups – ours included – will be part of that organization – “Scottish Settlers 1812 Commemoration Inc.”

Ever in the Past…………..
