New Year's Levee 2017

Sabrina here, writing my first blog post to give Genevieve a bit of a break from taking care of the whole website.

Manitoba Living History Society got invited again to the New Year's Levee at the Manitoba Legislative Building to meet the Lieutenant Governor, the Honourable Janice Filmon. We got a picture on the grand staircase in all of our 1860s glory.

After frantically getting ready on site, we went through the receiving line making our best bows and curtsies to Her Honour as we were introduced. Then we mixed and mingled with other visitors while enjoying the complimentary punch, cider, and snacks. We met a number of interesting people who were equally interested in us as we wandered around in our "funny clothes."  We were happy and honored to be return guests and are looking forward to many more years of attending the Levee.
Respectfully yours,
Sabrina

Musings in the NewYear.

I hope your holidays went well. I've added some pictures and the current Newsletter is now up.
The play went well. It was a lot of work. I ended up being backstage during the performances, helping with costumes changes, being ready to fix things on the fly with safety pins, bobby pins and duck tape. I enjoyed the experience on the whole.  After the play was done. I scrambled to make the kids Christmas presents. My oldest got the starts of a pokemon quilt. My middle child got a wizards cloak and hat. and my youngest got a purple 1860s style dress. I'm still working on them.

On NewYears day we followed the MLHS tradition of going to the Levee at the legislative building. A few of us had to work hard to get some of the outfits finished for the Day of.
We had a wonderful time at our Annual Winter Gathering, there was laughter, playing, bartering, cooking, a talent show, games, crafts and even some Fireworks.

We've had our General Annual Meeting, with it brought a couple changes to our board.
Kiera-Lyn stepped down for now and David Joined us on the Board. Welcome David!!!

We've been to the St-Norbert Heritage Fair which is always well attended. A lot of friendly faces were there and of course lots of dancing. The Ladies and Gents attended Heritage Preservation Awards at the Millenium Centre.

Lastly we have gathered together to start work on corsets and other pieces of clothing. Sometimes it may seem like we are a very quiet society.  We are busy in waves and to be truthful most of us are always working on some project or another. I'm currently busy working on finishing some projects before starting others and working on a presentation that I will be doing next month relating to Canada's 150th.

                                                                             Faithfully Yours,
                                                                                         Genevieve Woods
